Mid 2014 I found out I was going to a very formal dinner on November 11th, commonly referred to internationally as armistice day, the day when hostilities ceased on the Western Front during WWI. It is one of two occasions within Australia where commemorative poppies are worn in remembrance of those who have died in the war. This was the perfect occasion to replikate the silver one shoulder Jenny Packham gown the Duchess of Cambridge wore on the 10th of November 2011, when she and William attended a reception and dinner at St. James’s Palace for the National Memorial Arboretum Appeal.
I immediately began searching everywhere for one shoulder silver gowns and could not find anything which was a close enough match. I eventually sent some pictures of Kate in her gown to a tailor in China who custom made the gown for me. She sent me progress photos as it was being made and prior to shipping and i was incredibly happy with how the gown turned out.
Then the hunt began for the perfect accessories! The poppy would be easy, they would be for sale everywhere in the fortnight leading up to the event. I found a wonderful pair of replikate earrings through etsy. The Kate Middleton inspired art deco earrings available from the looking glass shop are perfect replikates! https://www.etsy.com/au/listing/190162210/kate-middleton-inspired-art-deco?ref=shop_review
I found a sparkly pair of strappy heels at Payless for only $50 AUD which i thought made great replikates for Kate’s Jimmy Choo vamps and picked up a sparkly silver clutch and a braclet at a local Australian accessories store called Collette.
The last thing to do was visit the salon for a Chelsea blow dry and the look was complete. Truly a night where i felt like a princess!
