Last year when I received an invite to a semi formal Christmas function I immediately knew that the red Preen Finella dress Kate wore in Canada would be perfect. Not having the dress I turned to the tailor who had previously made me a copy of a Jenny Packham gown to recreate the look. Having received another event invite for a function the same week as Valentines day I knew the red dress would be perfect again. Read on to see how I styled the dress for each occasion.
When Kate wore her dress in Canada she styled it with an elegant up do, the Soru baroque earrings, red shoes and clutch and added a very occasion appropriate maple leaf brooch. I loved how the brooch added a bit of sparkle to the outfit and showed again how skilled the Duchess is at making personalised little touches to pay homage to her hosts. I knew I definitely wanted to add a brooch to my outfit but a maple leaf would not be appropriate for the occasion. I started to look for sparkly similar sized Christmas brooches and came across a large variety and finally settled on a snowflake one. Feeling that red shoes and a red clutch would be a bit difficult for me to pull off I planned to use my Anya Hindmarch clutch that I had in my wardrobe that Kate has used previously. A glossy black evening clutch with a charming little bow I thought it was the perfect choice.
The weekend before the event I headed off to Sydney to have a family catch up prior to christmas and also meet up with the wonderful @lauraupton for our own replikaters tea party. We meet up for a wonderful high tea at the Langham hotel where Laura surprised me by bringing along a beautiful sparkly bow brooch that she thought would match my clutch perfectly which was so thoughtful of her.
The day of the event I took a picture of Kate’s up do from a reception in Canberra when she wore the white Lela rose dress peplum dress then had my make up done at Napoleon Perdis. All I needed was to put on my Soru earrings and a quick spray of Illuminum white gardenia petals perfume Kate wore on her wedding day and I was event ready.
For the Valentines week event I chose to change-up my accessories to be a bit more occasion specific. I wore a copy of her Kiki McDonough Lauren earrings I purchased off etsy, used a red clutch and took shoe inspiration from the Prada cut out heels Kate wore with the black version of the Preen dress by wearing a replikate pair by Nine West. I wore Jo Malone peony and blush suede for a romantic scent.
